Located in what was the first public school for black students in Western Virginia, the Harrison Museum of African American Culture holds a special place in the heart of anybody who has toured it. Inside, you'll see exhibits on local history, the Civil War, and the Civil Rights Movement. There is a museum store where visitors may purchase cards, books, and craftwork. |

Description:
This restored freight station is dedicated to commemorating the rail industry that helped to establish Roanoke in the 19th century. This well-done museum houses a large collection of steam and diesel train engines, and guests can climb aboard and explore these vintage pieces. You'll also see several examples of antique passenger cars, circus cars, buses, and carriages, as well as a delightful model train exhibit. The museum has a gift shop where you can purchase prints of some of the trains on exhibit and other train memorabilia. |
