Destin Factoid
Ten thousand years ago, American Indians first settled in the untamed coastal region of the Panhandle. Around 1400 AD, they constructed an earthen hill for ceremonial and political purposes. Although it doesn't command the landscape as it may once have, it's still a tangible reminder of our common attraction to, and dependence on, the sea. And, you can visit it yet today at the Indian Temple Mound Museum.
